Interviewing Principles

February 21, 2007 · No Comments

As part of this project I want to maintain the highest level of trust and integrity. This isn’t the type of project that really demands a mission statement, but should have clarity about what participants can expect from the process. I found a great example of some Principles and Standards, as used by the Oral History Association (OHA).

Go here to see their guidelines used. These will be extremely helpful to me as I put together the EEE Project’s Principles.

How to Conduct Interviews

February 21, 2007 · No Comments

While doing research about interview techniques I found a wonderful article by Marsha MacDowell called, “Collecting Stories: The Oral Interview in Research”. The link here is actually an MS Word doc, so either right click and save, or try to open in your browser.

Eight to Eighty-Eight Project

February 20, 2007 · No Comments

I’m currently looking for people to be interviewed for a possible book and / or gallery project. The interview session would consist of no less than 60 minutes of a recorded interview (audio), and some photographs as a companion piece.

Sorry, but this is not a paid project. I would be happy to provide those that participate with the project digital versions of their photos, and if selected for use in the book, a free copy of the book as well when it’s finally published.

I wanted to explore a theme centered around graduating perspectives as told in chronological order based on each person’s age (from Eight to Eighty-Eight). The only requirement is that the participants are an age match of eight to eighty-eight (and I’m flexible on the eighty-eight part; I’d love to interview someone who was one hundred and eight).

The desire to do this came from a few things.

1. I wanted to take on a project that was challenging, and something that helped me blend images with words and a story.

2. People are interesting to me.

3. Studs Terkel’s book, “The Good War”, is one of my favorites. It’s partly responsible for inspiring me to do this. I remember my grandfather reading it, and giving it to me to read it as a kid. It made a huge impression on me.

For both children and adults interviewed and photographed a release would be required. Please feel free to contact me by email or via phone at (818) 836-8050 if you’re interested in participating with the project.
