AC servo motor working principle and application
AC servo motors are one of the most widely used industrial servo motors that offer precise control while object movement. Generally, a servo motor is used in an electrical device so that the device can rotate with maximum possible precision. In simple words, a servo motor is a linear or rotary actuator that allows precise control to the device in both, angular and linear position at any point of acceleration and velocity. AC servo motor working is that simple such that anyone can operate it without any technical hindrance.
AC servo motors were not come in any specific class of motors because they are specially manufactured for using in end numbers of motion control applications where quick reversing and high accuracy positioning is important and mandatory. With the help of simple ac servo motor working principle, you can design a perfect servo motor that can be used in radar systems, robotics, tracking systems, CNC machines, computers, automated manufacturing systems etc. Due to law inertia, long rotor length and small diameter design, AC servo motor offers high speed but precise response time. Most of the servo motors powered by servo mechanism that uses position feedback in order to control the final position along with speed of the motor. AC servo motors are designed by combining a feedback circuit, a motor and controller along with other essential electronic circuits.
In a servo motor, there is also use of speed sensor that offer tracking of speed feedback as well as position. In order to generate the error signals, these tracked feedback signals are further compared with inputted command position. Generated error signals were not enough to power up the motor. Thus, the error detector combine with a servo amplifier to increase the power and voltage level of the error signals so that the shaft of the motor will rotate in the direction of the desired position. On the basis of servo motor’s construction, AC servo motors are of two distinct types which are given below.
Synchronous type AC servo motor
This type of servo motor contains a rotor along with a stator. Further, stator contains a stator core and cylindrical frame. The whole stator core is bind up with the armature coil and the coil’s end is joined with a lead wire so that the current will properly flowed to the motor. There is also use of permanent magnet so that the current will properly induced in it. Due to the structural characteristics, this type of AC servo motor is also known as brushless servo motors.

Induction type AC servo motor
The structure of this AC servo motor type is similar as the structure of general motor. This servo motor type consists of lead wire, armature winding and stator core. On the other hand, stator rotor itself consists of rotor core and shaft. The induction type ac servo motor working principle is same as the normal induction motor.

How AC servo motors are different from DC servo motors ?
AC servo motors deliver low output ranging from 0.5 W to 100 W which is impossible to achieve in DC servo motors. In addition to this, AC servo motors less came across with stability problems as compared with DC servo motors. Moreover, the life of AC servo motor is more as it depends on bearing life, whereas, DC servo motor’s life depends on brush life.
