Unlike conventional generators, Honda EU2200i and Generac GP2200i both use generator inverter technology.

Featuring advanced inverter technology, these produce clean power for sensitive electronics such as computers, laptops, etc.

Clean power (Stable Power) simply means lesser harmonic distortion (lesser voltage spikes). Clean Power is essential for the safety of sensitive electronics.

Both generators do not have a fuel gauge. They depend on a recoil starter for startup and lack an electric starter.

Both generators feature parallel capability. It means you can combine two generators using a parallel connection kit to double the output power.

This comes in handy when you have to run the generator for a larger load. But, You have to buy a Parallel connection kit as it is not included in the box.

Honda EU2200i vs Generac GP2200i: Power Output and Fuel Efficiency

Backup power generators are available in a wide selection of output power. You will definitely get lost in the long list without your power requirements.

So, It’s important to calculate your power demands before you set out to buy a generator. It will help you select the best backup power solution.

You won’t like paying for a 5000-watt generator when a 2000-watt generator will be enough for your use case.

Efficiency is a very broad term when it comes to portable generators. In layman’s terms, Better efficiency simply means more power output and runtime hours with lesser fuel consumption.

Power Output Comparison

The Honda EU2200i generates extra power i.e. 200 surge watts than its predecessor Honda EU2000i portable generator model.

Honda EU2200i uses a 121cc Honda GXR120 Commercial Series engine. This inverter power generator produces 2200-watt surge power and 1800-watt rated power.

The GP2200i portable generator features an 80cc Generac OHV 4-Stroke Engine. It produces 2200 surge watts and 1700 running watts running on gasoline.

Honda EU2200i generates higher rated output power compared to Generac GP2200i. And, Honda GXR120 is way off league compared to Generac GP2200i’s engine.

A powerful engine minimizes the possibility of engine damage by an overload condition. It also ensures longer engine life and robust performance.

Winner: Honda EU2200i Inverter Generator

Fuel Efficiency Comparison

Honda EU2200i uses Honda’s exclusive Eco-Throttle feature (Eco Mode) to offer better fuel economy.

This feature allows the engine to adjust engine speed according to the current load. This reduces engine wear and improves fuel efficiency.

Honda EU2200i comes with a 0.95 gallons fuel tank capacity. It can run up to 8.1 hours in a single fuel tank at a quarter load.

Generac GP2200i can run up to 10.75 hours in a single fuel tank operating at a quarter load. It has a 1.2-gallon gas tank.

This Generac inverter generator also features economy mode which functions like Honda’s eco-throttle system.

Honda EU2200i has more running wattage i.e. 1800-watts vs 1700-watts and Generac GP2200i has a bigger fuel tank.

With proper calculations we found the Honda EU2200i to be more fuel-efficient than Generac GP2200i. However, the winning margin was not very large.

Honda EU2200i vs Generac GP2200i: Fuel Types and Tank Capacity

A larger fuel tank means maximum runtime hours. But it will also increase the weight and size of the generator.

Also, it does not affect fuel consumption, so fuel efficiency remains the same but portability decreases.

Having an additional fuel option will come in handy when either of the fuel options becomes inaccessible.

Portable generators with dual-fuel capability use gasoline and propane as fuel options. Propane is cheaper and burns cleaner compared to gas.

Fuel Types Comparison

Both Honda EU2200i and Generac GP2200i have gasoline-powered engines. Both generators are gas-powered and do not have dual-fuel capability.

Winner: Draw

Tank Capacity Comparison

Honda EU2200i comes with a 0.95-gallon tank. Whereas, Generac GP2200i comes with a fuel tank capacity of 1.2 gallons.

A bigger tank without compromising with overall portability of the generator is better in a few ways.

So, Generac GP2200i wins this comparison.
